What is the difference between static residential proxies and residential proxies?
Static residential proxies (also known as ISP proxies)
- Obtain IPs directly from ISPs, so in that sense they are still residential IPs.
- However, they are delivered from highly stable servers with top-tier internet speeds.
- An ISP proxy keeps the same IP address for as long as you need, with no bandwidth limit and unlimited session duration, making it ideal for long-running, large-scale web scraping tasks.
Residential proxies (rotating residential IPs)
- Are created from home devices of users who share their internet connection.
- It is difficult to keep the same IP over time because end users can disconnect their device, disable the service, or lose connectivity, and their internet speed may vary.
- Residential proxies typically change IPs at configurable intervals or on each request, helping you easily avoid IP-based blocking.
In short, static residential (ISP) proxies focus on stable, non-rotating IPs, while regular residential proxies focus on frequent rotation and large IP pools.
